Local and regional newspapers are coming under increasing pressure from council-run newspapers, says Greenslade. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a case in point in which the council is being criticised by opposition parties for using the magazine to challenge the viability of the local newspaper and wonders whether the government should intervene to stop councils from producing their own newspapers.
